Brazil has named their squad for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and PSG’s and Brazil’s poster boy is set to sit out this year’s Olympic. The Tokyo Olympic which was scheduled to be held last year was delayed like everything else due to the Corona virus Pandemic.
Brazil want’s Neymar to rest for the Tokyo Olympics as he is busy with the national team playing in the Copa America
The World’s most expensive player is not going to feature in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, however, Brazilian veteran has made the cut to the squad which was announced on Thursday.
Neymar was instrumental in Brazil’s Olympic Gold in 2016 Rio Olympics as he scored the winning goal in the penalty shootout. Neymar’s PSG team-mate Marquinhos who won the gold medal five years back will also not feature. With both the players involved in the Copa America after a hectic season of club, it is quite understandable why neither of them is going to feature.
Neymar is our reference point .. a great leader of the national team and we would like to be able to count on him. But we couldn’t,” admitted CBF coordinator Branco as the squad was named.
Veteran Dani Alves who missed the Copa America due to a knee injury was included as Brazil’s coach Andre Jardine is counting on his vast experience and is hoping Alves will be fit in time.
Lyon’s Bruno Guimares and recent Marseille signing Gerson have been included in the squad. It is difficult to expect that players like Neymar, Marquinhos would feature in two consecutive National Team tournaments and then head off to club pre-season. Brazil kick off their Olympic campaign against last year’s runner’s up Germany on July 22.
