“We need to raise our level”- Cesar Azpilicueta on how Chelsea can compete against Manchester City

With the high intensity match between Chelsea and Liverpool ending in a 2-2 draw, Man City now have a clear lead of 10 points at the top of the table.

The much anticipated clash between Liverpool and Chelsea ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw wherein both the teams shared a point each. It was not a positive result for either team as the table toppers Manchester City now have a solid 10 points advantage over second placed Chelsea FC and Pep Guardiola’s men are slowly heading towards winning their second consecutive Premier League trophy.

Liverpool FC bottled a 2-0 lead against the Blues in tonight’s match and all the 4 goals came in the first half. Liverpool might have opened the match on a high, securing two early goals but Tuchel’s men caught up soon and dominated the rest of the match.

After the match, however, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta expressed his disappointment at securing just 1 point from the match as it gave Manchester City a clear lead. He said that Chelsea need to ‘raise their levels’ if they want to compete for the title.

What Cesar Azpilicueta said

Cesar Azpilicueta said, “Of Course they are at the top and the more points we leave behind, the happier they will be. It’s football, we know how it works. They have set the standards really high in the Premier League. I mean in terms of points they made the record.”

The Spanish defender believes that Man City are a step ahead of any other Premier League team right now due to their insane level of consistency. He said that Chelsea need to learn from them and do the same.

“I said at the beginning of the season that it is up to us to close the gap because last season we finished far from where we wanted to be. We know they are a quality team and they have been playing together for a while. We needed to raise our level and of course we are on our way but until now we didn’t reach that level of consistency that could keep us at the top,” the captain concluded.
