According to Chelsea’s former defender Ricardo Carvalho, Frank Lampard is building a team to challenge next season’s EPL title. Chelsea has signed some of the top quality players available in the transfer market. Frank Lampard was appointed Chelsea’s manager on 4th July 2019.
Chelsea finished third in the English Premier league and was runners up to Arsenal in a 2-1 FA Cup final defeat. However the Stamford Bridge Blues were imposed with a transfer ban in 2019. Frank Lampard had to reimburse Hazard’s sale with academy stars like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Reece James.
Chelsea’s third placed finish can be accepted as a success given the transfer ban conditions. Now the blues are back in business and have made some serious acquisitions for their final third. Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech were recently snapped up from RB Leipzig and Ajax respectively.
Carvalho believes that Chelsea are getting ready for a title challenging season in the 2020-2021 campaign. In an Interview with Daily Mail Carvalho said, “Given he lost Eden Hazard, so far he’s done very well. He achieved a Champions League place for next season which of course is very important, and has brought in young/talented players. Frank is building a very good team and I expect next year he can fight for the title with those players, for sure.”
In a recent encounter with Bayern, Chelsea crashed out of the UEFA Champions League to a 7-1 deficit over two legs in the last 16. Lampard stated that he’s proud of his team and feels their still a “work in progress”.
