2021 Title Fight much More ‘Intense’ and ‘Satisfying’ than Sebastian Vettel’s triumph in 2010: Helmut Marko

Helmut Marko feels like the 2021 win of Max Verstappen was much more emotional than Sebastian Vettel's win in 2010.

The 2021 Formula 1 season was an exciting and intense one to say the least, as the world saw one of the greatest title fights of all time. The Lewis Hamilton vs Max Verstappen title fight boiled down to the very last race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The season came with its fair share of drama and action, as fans looked at the greatest of all time race.

For the first time since 2008, a Red Bull driver lifted the trophy for the World Championship. Christian Horner and Helmut Marko were the happiest of them all, with their hard work for the year paying off. Verstappen became the first Dutchman to win a world championship.

Marko made it clear that the team would continue to go full force in the coming weeks as well. “We want to bring this to a successful conclusion as soon as possible with absolute top performances,” he said according to gpblog. “I already indicated halfway through the year: ten wins should be enough,” said the advisor.

“It is More Emotional,” Helmut Marko on Verstappen’s 2021 Title Win

When asked whether Verstappen’s title was was more emotional than Vettel’s first title in 2010, the Red Bull advisor said, “It is more emotional. In 2010 (Vettel’s first title) we had the best car, although Ferrari and McLaren were also in the game. To become world champion now would be an incredible success. Beating the best driver of all time, that’s on a completely different level.”

Marko welcomed this title from Verstappen for several reasons, the first being that Red Bull has not won a title since 2014. Verstappen would also be successful in holding of Lewis Hamilton from winning an eighth title, which would break legendary driver Michael Schumacher’s record of seven total championship wins.
