“I really regret it”: Toto Wolff about his bitter relation with Christian Horner

Toto Wolff, team principal of Mercedes and Christian Horner, team principal of Red bull always had a friendly competition going on from very the beginning. The off-track rivalry between Toto Wolff and Christian Horner got ugly in the last season of 2021, when the star players, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen of the two title contending teams clashed and tension started increasing between them. 

The on-track tension and rivalry between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton got ugly even among the team principals of Mercedes and Red bull. With the battle of the championship decider coming towards the end of the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the two, Toto Wolff and Christian Horner shook hands indicating good sportsman spirit. But with the controversial end towards the season, crowning Max Verstappen as the 2021 World Champion, tension between the two sparked off.

Toto Wolff reveals his regret over verbal spat with Christian Horner

Over the months, Toto Wolff had gotten time to ponder over his actions after the Abu Dhabi mishap and admits to have regrets in the fall-out of his relation with Christian Horner. “I always try to stay professional and approach things professionally. It got very personal between the two of us” said Toto Wolff in an interview. He recalls the flexi wing situation where Christian Horner told him to “keep his mouth shut” to which he responded by saying he was a windbag and talked too much for the cameras, for which he was filled with remorse. 

Susie Wolff’s role in the relation :

In an interview, Toto Wolff said that Susie Wolff, Formula E Venturi boss and his wife put some sense in him by giving him a slap on the wrist for the way his relationship was playing out with Christian Horner.

Laughing about the whole situation, Toto realized that intelligence is somewhat lacking in men when Susie Wolff said, “ why are you having these kinds of discussions? You’re trying to win, respect that. Even if someone goes in that direction, you don’t have to. That’s called female social intelligence.” Well sometimes we men have too many hormones, admitted Toto. Towards the end of the 2021 season, Christian Horner and Toto Wolff have congratulated each other for their respective wins and are hoping to see a friendly fight without any bad blood.
