Lewis Hamilton marked his name in the history books as the most successful race driver in Formula One with his 92nd win at the Portuguese Grand Prix. This is a historic win for Hamilton who breaks the record of the legendary German Michael Schumacher.

Mercedes finished the race at the Portimão International Circuit with a double podium finish with Hamilton and Valteri Bottas taking the top two positions. Hamilton was 25 seconds clear of teammate Bottas. Redbull’s Max Verstappen took third place as Charles Leclerc of Ferrari remained content at the fourth spot.

With this win, Hamilton is now officially crowned as the most successful race driver in the history of Formula One. The win comes after a fortnight when he equaled Schumaker’s 91 race wins in the formula one circuit.

Hamilton thanks Mercedes team after victory

Hamilton was short of words after the win at the Portuguese Grand Prix. He thanked his team Mercedes for his incredible success in the sport. Hamilton was also congratulated by his Father immediately after the race who was present at the circuit.

Lewis Hamilton said after the race, “I owe this to the [Mercedes team] here and those back at the factory. It’s been such a privilege to work with them.

I could only of ever dreamed of where I am today. It’s gonna take some time to sink in. I can’t find the words at the moment

Hamilton is also on top of the Formula One tournament standings with 230 points and 7 wins. The Briton has widened the gap as the next competitor for him is teammate Valteri Bottas with 167 points. Mercedes lead the constructors table with 391 points, thanks to 9 wins and 17 podium finishes.
