Lewis Hamilton secured a record-equaling seventh Formula One title after winning on a wet Turkish Grand Prix for a record 94th victory on Sunday. Hamilton now stands level with F1 great Michael Schumacher on seven titles, after having replaced the German at Mercedes in 2013.

All Hamilton had to do ahead of today’s Grand Prix was to finish ahead of his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas to clinch his sixth title for Mercedes and seventh overall (Hamilton won once with McLaren in 2008). Bottas finished 14th after a poor start.

After crossing the line in Turkey, an emotional Hamilton said, “That’s for all the kids out there who dream the impossible,” Hamilton said. “You can do it.”

The British driver started from sixth place on the grid but took advantage of errors and poor tire strategies from other teams to win a fourth straight race in this season.

He crossed the line 30 seconds ahead of Racing Point’s Sergio Perez and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel who secured his first podium finish of what has been a difficult season for him.
