Nico Rosberg: George Russell Signs ‘Mercedes Contract’ in Toto Wolff’s Office After Dutch GP

After the Dutch GP, the former Mercedes and 2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg has had some serious claims. As Max Verstappen took the honors in front of his home fans at Zandvoort, Rosberg claimed that the Netflix camera operators who have filmed every race and action for the Drive to Survive series were called into Toto Wolff’s office wherein George Russell was signing a contract. Which indicates he surely will partner Lewis Hamilton in 2022. 

As Valtteri Bottas’ contract is going to expire in 2022, he is reported to be offered an extension even when Hamilton wants him to stay against all odds. Although the Finn did finish third on the podium at Dutch GP, handing crucial point to Mercedes, yet it seems like the Silver Arrows boss has lost all faith in his current driving line-up. 

What was Revealed by Nico Rosberg? 

“By the way on George Russell, I’ve got a rumour,” Nico Rosberg told Sky Sports F1. “A certain streaming service was called into the office of Toto to film the signatures. That’s the rumour that is circulating in the paddock.” 

Toto Wolff has previously claimed that he will not announce his decision until both Russell and Bottas have drives for next season. However, as things stand, it does look like with Kimi Raikkonen retiring after the 2021 season, Valtteri Bottas will find a home in that very team.

Having said that many former drivers including Rosberg and Jenson Button are keen on looking at George Russell driving for the big guns. Knowing that he has great potential, he can very well be the face of not only the Brackley-based team. But also, Formula 1 is he is able to learn a trick or few from the arguably the greatest driver of all time driving alongside him in the next season.
