Formula 1 Penalty Points: Two Drivers on the Brink of Race Fans

Lando Norris

According to the latest developments within the Formula 1 world, Lando Norris has been joined at the top of the penalty points table by Lance Stroll. The latter received two in Russia. As rain fell in Sochi, Stroll was hit with a 10-second penalty as well as two points on his licence for sending Pierre Gasly into a spin.

Three points will drop off Lance Stroll’s licence in late October but until then, he joins Norris in being just four points off a race ban and needing clean races in Turkey and United States.

Max Verstappen picked up his first penalty points of the calendar year after his dramatic, race-ending crash with title-rival Lewis Hamilton at the Italian Grand Prix.

Alongside time penalties, driving infringements also carry penalty points to ensure driving standards are maintained. These points expire after 12 months have elapsed but will result in a race ban should 12 points be accrued during this period.
