Pierre Gasly was hands down one of the stands outperformers of the 2021 Formula1 season with the fantastic outings he had for the RedBull sister team Alpha Tauri.
It has been stated in automotorsport that during the 2021 season Pierre Gasly was able to make it to the top 6 16 times during the qualifying sessions of the 2021 Formula1 season. He was consistent throughout the season and was able to carry his team single-handedly.
For the 2021 season Alpha Tauri recruited Yuki Tsunoda to partner Pierre Gasly however, the young Japanese driver’s performances during the season were less than ordinary. In such a situation Pierre had to step up big time for the team and he certainly did.
During the 2021 season, Pierre scored over 100 points for the team and kept them in the race for fifth place in the constructor’s championship. The 2021 season was Pierre’s most successful season in Formula1 in terms of points.
Pierre recently has said that in his opinion Alpha Tauri was able to squeeze the maximum out of the car during the 2021 season and it helped his cause in challenging the big guns of Formula1.
Pierre Gasly on the disappointment of not getting the 2022 RedBull seat
Pierre has recently shed light on the 2022 Formula1 seat at RedBull and has said “I’m in Formula 1 to fight at the top. That motivates me to constantly improve. I won’t lie It’s difficult to deliver a season like that. And then when I compare myself to those who have been given the opportunity for a Red Bull seat, it’s disappointing. Based on the numbers and the results, I’ve performed better than anyone else on this team.“
It seems Pierre has been left disappointed ever since Sergio Perez was announced as the RedBull driver for the 2022 Formula1 season. Pierre’s frustration is quite understandable to an extent as after a fantastic season like 2021 it is very hard for any driver to see someone else get what you have been wanting for a long time.
While stressing on the agenda Pierre further added “I know what I want to achieve in this sport. I want to fight at the top. That hasn’t changed. It won’t be that for next year. But that doesn’t mean that if things don’t happen in 2022, it won’t happen in 2023. I will keep going full throttle and believe in myself. I hope that the AlphaTauri will be just as good as it was this season, despite the change in the regulations.”
Pierre Gasly wants to stay optimistic despite the RedBull setback and if we go by what Pierre has said, it seems he is targeting the RedBull seat for the 2023 season of Formula1. If this is to happen, then he has no choice but to deliver another exceptional season for Alpha Tauri as he did during the 2021 Formula1 season.
Formula1 is an unpredictable sport and no one knows what the future has in store. If Pierre delivers another strong season during 2022 then who knows, he just might get what he is after. What are your thoughts on it?
