“We were just one lap away from being in the points”- Antonio Giovinazzi Comments On His Team’s Performance In The Turkish GP

Alfa Romeo’s driver Antonio Giovinazzi believes that he could’ve got points for his team if they had one more lap and that he would have passed Alpine’s Esteban Ocon who was running P10. While Esteban Ocon was the only driver in the grid who did not pit even a single time, Giovinazzi came late into the pits which cost him his place as Ocon took over.

The Italian driver had a brilliant start to the race as he made up places in the beginning and waited until the 40th lap to come into the pits and get a new pair of fresh intermediate tyres, despite having a new pair of tyres in comparison to Ocon’s old sets, Giovinazzi failed to take advantage.

What did Antonio Giovinazzi say after the Turkish Grand Prix?

Giovinazzi commented that the race on Sunday could have been better had he qualified better on Saturday, but he admitted that Alfa Romeo has good pace this season and they will try getting points in the upcoming United States Grand Prix which will take place on 24th October.

“We were just one lap away from being in the points, and this is really frustrating,” said Giovinazzi. “The race wasn’t bad, despite starting from the back as a result of yesterday’s qualifying, which made everything harder

He further added that “We gave it our best but unfortunately it wasn’t enough – for the smallest margin, just one second. We had good pace in the last couple of races, so let’s focus on getting back in the points for the next race in Austin.”

Teammate Kimi Raikkonen had a good start too and made early gains, but as soon as the track began to dry, both the Alfa Romeo drivers were struggling to keep up with other drivers.

This season could also be Antonio Giovinazzi’s last at Alfa Romeo as the team looks for alternate options, with just 6 races to go, will Giovinazzi be able to impress and retain a seat for the next season?
