This one is a blast from the past as we look at the winner of last year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The race was very placid compared to what had transpired in the races before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last season. Max Verstappen started from pole position in the race and managed to lead for all the 55 laps of the circuit. It was a very solid performance on the part of Max and Red Bull but from a spectator’s point of view, the race failed to deliver miserably. It was not able to deliver as per the expectations of the fans all over the world. It was the last race of the season and certainly, it should have managed to entice the fans of the sport.

It all started for Max in FP 1 as he was able to put in a solid performance for P1. In FP 2 he was a bit off the pace as he slipped to P3 behind the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Bottas. Max and Red Bull we’re trying out a few adjustments FP 2 session and we’re hence looking at P3 at the end of the session. When the time came for the Qualifying session Max was on it from the beginning and it was very close between the Mercedes duo and Max during the whole course of the Qualifying session. In Q3 Bottas did a 1:35:271 but Max was able to nick the session by putting up a time of 1:35:246 which was a very impressive result for Red Bull and Max.

He was having his separate race on the track as after the start he was quickly able to disappear into the distance while the Mercedes crew were left scratching their heads as they were not able to come up with a potent strategy to overtake Max. He was able to complete the 55 laps in 1:36:28:645 whereas his nearest rival Bottas managed to complete the race in +15 seconds of Max’s time. It was a comfortable race for Red Bull back then and they would be hoping for the same at this year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
