Antonio Giovinazzi will bid adieu to Alfa Romeo after three seasons with team. The Italian driver had 62 starts during his spell at Alfa Romeo, and managed to bag 21 points during these three years. His best finish came at the Brazilian GP in 2019, where he finished a solid P5.

Antonio Giovinazzi has been appointed a reserve driver for Alfa Romeo alongside Mick Schumacher. The 28-year-old is convinced that he will return to Formula One soon, and this year will certainly not be his last in the sport. The Italian has received backing from Ferrari since his earlier days in Formula One. He debuted in F1 for Sauber with one or two appearances due to the backing from Ferrari.

I’m leaving for now. I posted my first picture in a F1 car when I was three years old on my social media. The last picture [in F1] is not this year. We saw already many drivers have stopped for one year and come back, like Esteban Ocon and Alex Albon,said Giovinazzi.

Antonio Giovinazzi just could not deliver results for his team in 2021, which was the reason Alfa Romeo decided not to extend his contract. Chinese rookie, Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas will form a new look Alfa Romeo team for the 2022 season, as Kimi Raikkonen also departed after hanging up his helmet.

Antonio Giovinazzi expressed his gratitude to the entire Alfa Romeo for their support in the last three years. The Italian also thanked all the drivers that sent him kind messages after his last race in Abu Dhabi.

On my side, I had two years reserve driving for Ferrari in 2017 and 2018 and finally got my chance in 2019. You never know what will happen in F1. For now, I want to say thanks to all the people who have supported me in the last three years, to all the fans who supported me after the news, and to all the drivers here in F1 who texted me. It’s been a great three years,” the Italian said.
