David Coulthard has had a strained relationship with Sebastian Vettel over the past year, after Coulthard made some comments regarding Vettel’s decline, earlier on in the season. The German replaced Coulthard at Red Bull in 2009, and won four consecutive championships.
David Coulthard revealed that he enjoys seeing Sebastian Vettel back to his best, but stated that their relationship is still strained. The four time champion finished P2 in Baku, to secure his podium finish of the season.
“Sebastian hardly speaks to me anymore because I said he is only a shadow of himself. I loved that he finished on the podium in Baku. His performance in France [P9] was good too,” said Coulthard.
Does David Coulthard see Vettel as an enemy?
David Coulthard spoke about Vettel’s declining form earlier this season, after the Bahrain GP. He stated that Vettel might not be able to rediscover his mojo, something which has not gone too well with the German.
“I just don’t see how he’s going to rediscover that mojo. I think he’s an asset for the team in terms of experience, a safe pair of hands in terms of bringing the car home, but I think once you lose that little bit of speed…,” said Coulthard at that time.
David Coulthard believes that Sebastian Vettel might see him as enemy, after he made such comments on the German driver. “But I understand that he sees it differently. I was also a racing driver. You see someone who says something negative about you as an enemy. I understand that,” said Coulthard.
