Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen could set up a blockbuster end to the season in Abu Dhabi

Lewis Hamilton will have his task cut out, if he is to win his record eight world championship title this year.

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen

Sporting rivalries do not get any better than the one Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have put up this year. The two championship contenders are just separated by eight points, with Max Verstappen topping the charts before the Saudi Arabian GP.

The sheer intensity with which the duo have fought against each other is quite commendable. However, we now enter the final stretch of the season, and none of the two drivers can afford to make mistakes. The penultimate race of the season will be held in the circuit of Jeddah this weekend, with the final one in Abu Dhabi next week.

There are several scenarios on as to who could win the championship this year. Max Verstappen could bag his first ever title in Saudi Arabia, if he finishes atleast P2 and Lewis Hamilton has a poor race. However, that is unlikely to happen, and in a realistic scenario, we are all set for a blockbuster finish in Abu Dhabi.

Lewis Hamilton- Max Verstappen could be level on points before Abu Dhabi GP

Max Verstappen

Lewis Hamilton has won two back-to-back races in Brazil and Qatar which has cut Verstappen’s lead at the top from 19 to just 8 points. Now, both drivers could end up with the same number of points before the Abu Dhabi GP.

If Lewis Hamilton wins the Saudi Arabian GP with the fastest lap and Max Verstappen comes in second, they would have the same number of points, 369.5.

The above scenario is likely an indeed one, given that Saudi Arabian GP is likely to favor Mercedes given the narrow tracks on offer. Moreover, the longer straights would be an added advantage to Mercedes given their speed.

Max Verstappen finished second in the Qatar GP a few weeks ago, which was a good result for him and Red Bull. The Dutchman made a recovery drive, after he was handed a five-place grid penalty ahead of the final race.
