BREAKING: Max Verstappen stays the world champion, Mercedes’ second decision not upheld

Mercedes' second appeal is also not upheld by FIA as Max Verstappen stays the world champion.

Max Verstappen

Mercedes have seen their second appeal against the race restart after the virtual safety car also not being upheld. As a result, Max Verstappen is our newly crowned Formula One champion, as he denies Lewis Hamilton his eighth title.

Lewis Hamilton was comfortably leading the race with five laps remaining, when Nicholas Latifi’s incident with Mick Schumacher called for a virtual safety car. Max Verstappen, chasing Lewis Hamilton on the fresher set of tyres was called into the pits again for one final throw of the dice from Red Bull.

In a very controversial decision from FIA, the cars between the two championship contenders were allowed to pass the safety car. This meant that Max Verstappen had one full lap to overtake Lewis Hamilton and claim the championship.

Max Verstappen is the newly crowned Formula One champion

Max Verstappen is now crowned the champion of the current season. The Dutchman has arguably been the best driver on the grid, winning 10 races and claiming 10 pole positions.

Although, the race ended in a controversial manner, this takes nothing away from the kind of shift Red Bull and Max Verstappen have put in the entire season. Verstappen ended Lewis Hamilton’s four bid for his fifth consecutive championship and his record eighth championship.

Now, after all that has happened in the last 9 months of Formula One racing, we take a breather and return to action in three months in Bahrain for the 2022 season. This season will go down as one of the best ones till date, and we could never see anything like this ever again.
