Max Verstappen puts forward his request to FIA of releasing an annual report, just like the one we saw in March. The report was the result of an investigation that was prompted after an investigation was launched into the events of the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP.

The report was a major announcement by the FIA and stated important findings by the committee. It also acknowledged that there was a “human error” in Abu Dhabi, made by the then race director Michel Masi. It further presented a detailed account of the events during the finale of the 2021 season.

The reigning champion presented his request to the governing body to publish a report which investigates the possible areas of improvement and concern every year. He said, as quoted by racingnews365.com, “I think it’s good that they [the FIA] showed it to the world – what they had been investigating. For me, this kind of investigation should happen every single year. I think, as an organisation or as a team, you always want to try and improve and try to do things better. For me, it’s quite a natural process you have to do anyway.”

Max Verstappen’s thoughts on the new approach of defining track limits

Criticism for Michael Masi wasn’t limited to his decision in Abu Dhabi. Over the season, the race director was on the radar for inconsistent decisions. Other than enforcing different penalties for similar incidents, Masi was also criticized for the unusual implementation of track limits.

This year, the two new race directors have taken a new approach. The approach, as evident from the Bahrain GP, was simple. The white line is the track limit, and all drivers shall follow it.

Max Verstappen gave his thumbs up for this and said, “I think for this year anyway, we want to be a bit more clear before we go into a weekend about what is allowed and what isn’t. Even when you talk about track limits, I think what worked really well in Bahrain was the white line. That’s it – no discussion. Drivers always like to explore more of the track, but if it’s the white line, it’s the white line – you can’t get around it.”

Max Verstappen stands third in the drivers’ championship, after the completion of two races. The driver looks in great form and has been in a strong battle with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who stands on top of the list.
