Two rounds of the 2022 season of season have ended, and the Alpine F1 team stands fourth on the table. Its driver and the two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, believe that the team can make place upward if they can develop their A522 quickly.

Alonso fought well for P6 in Saudi Arabian but couldn’t finish the race after a power failure in his car. However, the driver is impressed by the car and is looking for rapid development. He has also lauded the team for the winter development, and the team also has certainly surprised everyone with their quick progress, after botched testing in Barcelona when they couldn’t even use their DRS.

Alonso, as quoted by GP Fans, said, “We need to push the button now in the factory. There are good ideas already in the factory, but it’s the same for everyone. I’m happy because after winter you never know exactly where the team performance is, and you can have negative surprises or positive surprises.”

Ferrari and Ferrari-powered teams such as Haas and Alfa Romeo have had quite a pace boost this season. And so far, Haas and Affa Romeo appear to be their direct competitors in the middle of the grid.

Speaking of these teams, Fernando Alonso said, “We’ve seen Haas, for example, they made some good choices on the car, and the Ferrari engine seems very powerful this year,” explained Alonso, who drove for the Scuderia between 2010 and 2014.”

“It’s a team that normally starts very strong then they don’t have many developments during the year, so it’s up to us to gain that race and to overtake a couple of the teams that may be in front of us. I’m optimistic that we can do that,” Alonso concluded.

The team is punching above their weight, but Alonso wants more. Alonso’s plan to overtake Ferrari looks optimistic, given the amount of development that’ll go into it, but Alpine can definitely be looking to challenge Mercedes for the third spot in the constructors.
