Andrey Rublev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: Preview

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Talking about the road to the quarters, barring the third round, Rublev has lost at least one set in every other match. This shows that the 22-year old Russian has had to battle hard in almost every encounter. It was the same story in the match he played yesterday against Marton Fucsovics. The World No.12 lost the opening set before making a stunning comeback to edge past Fucsovics 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 in a closely-fought contest in the Round of 16.

On the other hand, after playing a five-set thriller in the opening round, Tsitsipas is yet to lose a set in the other matches he played at Roland Garros this year. The 22-year old Greek had an easy outing yesterday in the fourth round against 18th-seed Grigor Dimitrov. The World No.6 sailed past Dimitrov in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 6-2. Tsitsipas is gradually finding his touch and is looking threatening now and when he is in such form, he can beat any player.

Andrey Rublev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: Prediction

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Rublev hasn’t looked as clinical in the tournament when compared to his Greek counterpart. Moreover, Tsitsipas is finding back his groove, which are ominous signs for any player, let alone the Russian. There is no doubt that Tsitsipas goes into this encounter as a favourite, Add to that, in the past two head-to-head meets, Rublev has been the victor, which makes Tsitsipas even more determined to settle the score. It is a fact that the two men have never won in straight sets against each other and it will be no different tomorrow at Roland Garros.
