Gabriel undergoes medical, as Arsenal close in on signing

Gabriel Magalhaes has undergone Arsenal medical as the Gunners close in on the signing. Mikel Arteta’s first choice centre-back is set to complete his move from Lille. Magalhaes has undergone medical today at London, with the deal set to be completed soon.

Arsenal agreed a fee of 25 million euros with Lille for the transfer of Magalhaes. Magalhaes arrived today at the London Colney training base as Gunners close in on their second signing.

After signing Willian on a free transfer from Chelsea, Magalhaes becomes Arsenal’s second recruit. Gabriel was the first-choice centre-back on Arteta’s wish list. Manchester United and Napoli were also in the race for the defender, but the negotiations failed.

Arsenal now have two young defenders in Magalhaes and Saliba to add to the current roster of defenders. Arteta has 8 choices at the centre-back position with some tipped to leave the Emirates. Calum Chambers is linked with Fulham while Mustafi will also be allowed to leave for a right price.
