Ganguly recalls historic 2001 test against Australia

A user shared that moment on twitter and Ganguly commented “What a win.” In that test match India clinched a 171 victory and became the 3rd team in the history of test cricket to win match after being forced to follow on.

Australia scored 445 runs in first inning by virtue of brilliant hundred by Steve Waugh. Indian team folded out for 171 (interestingly the victory margin) and were asked to follow on by Australia.

Harbhajan Singh has stolen the attention their by taking seven wickets and by taking hat-trick, first in India’s test history. Sourav Ganguly led side played cautiously in the second innings and lost three wickets at the score of 115.

India lost Ganguly in 67th over after that Rahul Dravid joined VVS laxman in the middle as side was reduced to 232/4. The duo stitched a 376 run stand which was like a nightmare to Aussies and after that it was a dramatic come back for India in that match.

Dravid scored 180 runs and Laxman scored 281 (his highest score in test cricket) to halt the Australian record of 16 test wins. This was one of of the best innings played by any batsman in modern era of test cricket.

Harbhajan again ran around Australian team and picked up six wickets. This match will be always remembered for India’s miraculous revival in the second innings.
