UFC 259 is all set to take place on the 7th of March in 2021. The event is headlined by the Light heavyweight championship bout between, current Light Heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz and current middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya. The Stylebender will be taking his first fight in the new weight class as a title contender. UFC 259 has three championship bouts in the same lineup. Along with Jan and Israel, Amanda Nunes vs Megan Anderson, and Petr Yan vs Aljamain Sterling will be happening.
UFC viewers seem to have taken offense to the fact that Israel Adesanya gets to fight for the title in his first match in the new division. This has to do with justice to Brazilian MMA fighter in the light heavyweight division, Glover Teixeira. The Brazilian is currently on a five-match consecutive winning streak. The fans and critics feel that Glover is the true contender for the title.
Reports have suggested that UFC has got in touch with Glover. The promotion has offered him a role as the backup fighter in the Adesanya vs Blachowicz fight at UFC 259. If things get rough in the final stages of the event, Teixiera might just get his title shot. According to Teixeira, he has been training and will weigh in on the Friday before the event.
Will Glover get paid if he ends up not fighting on the main event?
It is common practice for the UFC promotion to call up a backup fighter before a huge bout to preserve the business for a big pay-per-view. A similar situation occurred when Michael Chandler took a trip to Fight Island as a backup fighter for the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Dustin Poirier bout at UFC 254. Reports suggested that Chandler was paid an undisclosed sum of money for his efforts as the backup fighter.
It is told that Glover Teixeira will be paid his dues for training hard and weighing in as the backup fighter for Israel Adesanya. Glover will be hoping for this to happen so he can finally get his title shot. Do you think Glover should get the fight against Jan Blachowicz?
