Billy Horschel has always been very open about his position regarding the LIV Series. Horschel didn’t hold back while calling LIV Golf “hypocrites” back in July, and he isn’t holding back now either. The 35-year-old golfer attacked the “brainwashed” professionals who joined the league financed by Saudi Arabia, saying some of them are so deluded that they think they would be permitted to return to the PGA Tour.
“There’s a lot of guys that are hypocrites, that aren’t telling the truth, that are lying about some things, that I, just, I can’t stand to sit here anymore and be diplomatic about it,” said Horschel on 5th June, ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open. Wednesday’s remark has now been added to his long record of insults directed not only at the league’s Saudi-backed players, but also at everyone else. “I think they’ve been brainwashed. The way they feel so adamant that they’re going to be back on the PGA Tour,” he told Golf Channel.
Horschel, who scored a 2-under 68 on Thursday in Memphis, Tennessee, previously attacked the apparent hypocrisy of several professionals who joined LIV Golf, which is backed by the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.

Judge Beth Labson Freeman’s decision in the PGA Tour’s favour at the court hearing on Tuesday prevented three LIV members from competing in the Fedex Cup Playoffs. As part of a bigger antitrust action against the Tour, Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford, and Matt Jones filed for a temporary restraining order last week. Horschel seemed to think that the correct decision was made- and Rory McIlroy gladly agreed.
“I think where the resentment comes from with members of this Tour is the fact that they (golfers participating in LIV Golf) want to try to get their way back in here with no consequences,” at his Wednesday press conference ahead of this week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, Rory McIlroy stated. “Anyone that’s read the PGA Tour handbook or abided by the rules and regulations, that would feel very unfair to them.”
This week in Memphis, two competitors are on the field: Cameron Smith and Cameron Young. These two athletes have recently been linked to LIV Golf. The top finishers at the 150th Open may feel a little uncomfortable with everything going on between the two tours.
