LIV Golf’s impact apparent on PGA Tour as golfers all set to receive $500,000 base pay from 2023

The PGA Tour will now offer a base pay of $500,000 for all golfers on tour.

LIV Golf vs PGA Tour

The LIV Golf series has been in the middle of quite a tussle since its inception. The Saudi backed Series however, has managed to make quite the impact in the golf world. With 54-hole no-cut team style format for tournaments, the fresh new style of golf is one that cannot be left unconsidered.

Yet, the backlash is massive- especially from the PGA Tour. The large amounts of money that the Series has paid for top golfers to join hasn’t gone unnoticed either. But now, the PGA Tour is starting to look like the hypocrite with the new rule it is about to implement in 2023.

In a change, and what can be called an inspiration from LIV, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan will now provide $500,000 to all golfers who hold the PGA Tour card. It is not a salary, nor is it prize money. Its simple base pay- meaning that it is pledged.

For golfers like Nick Lindheim, it is good news. “It’s expensive to be out here on the road every week,’’ Lindheim said. “The players who stand out to me are the ones who don’t think about the financial part of it. They can just go out and play and let things happens. That’s not how my brain works.’’

The drama between the PGA Tour and the LIV Series will continue to escalate, especially as the LIV Series has filed an antitrust lawsuit; the trial of which is to be held in January of 2024. One thing is for sure though- LIV Golf is here to stay.
