In a thrilling finish, Will Zalatoris defeated Sepp Straka in a three-hole playoff to win the 2022 St. Jude’s Championship. Paige Spiranac, former Golf professional turned Influencer thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.
Spiranac, the 29-year-old rebuked individuals who said the field for the St. Jude’s Championship was uninteresting on Twitter. She commended the playoff for being so thrilling and renewed her love of the game.
“Remember when people were saying this tournament was boring and the leaderboard sucked LOL. What a playoff. I love golf,” Spiranac wrote in a tweet. With over 1,000 likes in just thirty minutes, Spiranac’s post is becoming popular. But given the outcomes we observed, it makes sense why people are so enthusiastic.

The opening two rounds of the playoff featured a stroke-for-stroke contest between Will Zalatoris and Sepp Straka. On the third hole, though, Zalatoris was able to put his ball in while Straka was unable to. The outcome was Zalatoris’ maiden victory on the PGA Tour for 2021–2022. Zalatoris had a difficult year in 2022. He tied for sixth in the Masters before losing to Luke List in a playoff for the Farmers Insurance Open.
He finished second at the PGA Championship, just missing out on a playoff victory over Justin Thomas, and then tied for second at the U.S. Open. Possibly this first victory in a tournament playoff will give Zalatoris the confidence boost he requires to begin the 2022–23 PGA Tour with more vigor.
