“I won’t have to deal with you anymore”: Sergio Garcia asks for release to play Saudi backed LIV Golf Series
Sergio Garcia
Recently, Sergio Garcia made quite the controversy, as he hinted his change of plans to the Saudi backed LIV International Golf Series to be held later in June.
Earlier this week a faulty ruling got Garcia heated up about the Wells Fargo Championship, and he was vocal about his frustration. “I can’t wait to leave this tour. “I can’t wait to get out of here, my friend. A couple of more weeks and I won’t have to deal with you any more,” said Garcia.
A rules official had deemed that Garcia exceeded the three-minute time limit to find his ball. He was forced to take a penalty drop- a decision which was later overturned because it did not take into consideration the time Garcia took to find the ball. Unfortunately since Garcia had already signed his scorecard before the subsequent ruling was made, his score of par on that 10th hole could not be changed.
Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, others ask for waiver to play LIV Series
Englishmen Lee Westwood and Richard Bland have already confirmed that they have asked to be released to play in the inaugural LIV Golf event, which will take place from 9-11 June in Hertfordshire. Americans Phil Mickelson and Robert Garrigus have also requested for the same releases.
The LIV Golf International Series is the first proposal to break away from the Super League. The PGA and European-based DP World Tours have threatened lifetime bans on defectors to the breakaway project, including the eight 54-hole events across Europe, the United States and Asia.
