Goran Ivanisevic  compares Novak with Real Madrid

In a recent interview with Al Jazeera Balkans, Goran Ivanisevic, 2001 Wimbledon winner spoke about his relationship with Novak Djokovic, his pupil and commended his game. The 17 time Grand Slam Champion has won 2 Australian Open titles and 1 Wimbledon title under the guidance of his mentor.

Goran has constantly helped the Serb to improve his game, especially serve thus, making him set benchmarks every year. He compared himself with a football coach and Novak with Real Madrid thus, singing his praises. He said that the World No. 1 could have pulled off a calendar grand slam this year; only for the pandemic to come and deny him off.

He also expressed his sorrow over the pandemic as he believed this year to do wonders for Novak and “gift” him a calendar slam record. “This in my opinion, was that year” he continued.

Although it’s difficult to break your way past the Serb barrier, Goran said that it’s just Dominic Thiem he is afraid of who he believes has potential to outshine Novak at the court after watching his game in 2019 Australian Open. Novak almost succumbed into the pressure and was about to get defeated but the defending champion gave no chance to his rival in following sets and emerged with a new record.

“We speak the same language, have the same mentality and used to be one county, “ said Goran hence, showing how well he gets along with his pupil and hoped that Corona disappears soon.
