Mikel Arteta could spring in a surprise and call Matteo Guendouzi back from Hertha Berlin. Matteo Guendouzi was loaned out to Hertha Berlin in 2020.
He was ostracized from the squad after the bust up in the match against Brighton. Guendouzi was excluded from Arsenal trainings and match-day squads due to issues with his “attitude and general conduct”.
Guendouzi has impressed at Hetha Berlin
However, Guendouzi’s performances in Germany haven’t gone unnoticed with Arteta set to call him back, according to reports in Germany. Hertha Berlin’s manager has been full of praises for the 21 year old for his leadership qualities.
Hertha boss Bruno Labbadia said “We’re glad we managed to recruit him, He is a very, very good player, who has a sense of space and is very technically skilled.”
“Although he’s young, he gives instructions. He doesn’t care at all that he doesn’t speak the language.”Matteo Guendouzi has managed 9 appearances for the German club scoring 2 goals during this phase.
However, it’s not clear whether the midfielder will be welcomed into the squad or sold. But given Arteta’s stance regarding Mesut Ozil, it’s more likely to be the latter.
Guendouzi’s contract expires in 2022 and Arsenal can look to cash on his departure in the winter to raise funds. He will hope he gets a chance to show Arteta his qualities and make a career at Arsenal.
