Another chess event of 2020, The Hillerod 110th Anniversary Open, which is a 9-round Swiss tournament taking place from 8-15 February 2020 in Hillerod, Denmark. Wonder kid of Indian chess, Gukesh D lead Indian challenge in this event. More fact to remember, average rating of this event is 2046.

Gukesh D starts his campaign on this event as 2nd seed. He is second youngest person in history to qualify for the title of Grandmaster Norm, showed consistent performance through out the event. He made flying start of this event after winning 4 consecutive matches. In 5th round match he shared point with top seed Zeng Chongsheng.

But in 6th round match he came back to winning ways after defeating Jacob Sylvan. He maintained his winning run in 7th round match as well. He scored another superb victory over Schultz-pede in 7th round match. In 8th round match, he shares point with Stanford, Maxim Barth and finishes his campaign strongly after winning 9th round match.

In 9th round match, Gukesh outplayed Ostergaard, Jens. Thanks to this win he scored impressive 8 points after 9 rounds,which proved enough to win title.

Another Indian international master Siva Mahadevan also performed superbly in this event. He scored impressive 7 points after final 9 rounds. Interesting fact is that he won 7 matches out of 9. He suffers defeat against Top seed Zeng, Chongsheng and 2nd seed Gukesh D. Thanks to scoring 7 points, Siva Mahadevan finishes 3rd place in this event.

No doubt, Gukesh D is future of Indian chess. He will be eyeing clinical performance in upcoming events. Confidence boosting title win would help him to produce better performance in coming days as well.
