Happy Birthday Sunil Gavaskar: Twitter floods with wishes as Little Master turns 71


Veteran Indian legend, Sunil Gavaskar, who played a crucial role in India’s 1983 World Cup victory turned another pane in life as he celebrates his 71st birthday on Friday.

Gavaskar was the front-man of the Indian team which brought the revolution in cricket in the country who played a total of 125 Test matches for the India National Cricket Team. In his career, the legendary batsman scored more than 10000 Test runs with a career average of above 50.

Twitter flooded with wishes for the little master on his special day. From Sachin Tendulkar to legend Indian pacer RP Singh, here’s how the cricket fraternity paid tribute to the legend:

India cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar took Twitter to wish Sunil Gavaskar on his birthday and wrote, “I got to meet my idol Gavaskar Sir for the first time in 1987. As a 13-year-old, I couldn’t believe my luck that I was meeting the person I looked up to & wanted to emulate. What a day that was.? Wishing you a very happy 71st birthday Sir. Have a healthy & safe year ahead.”

Mohammad Kaif also wished the legend on his social media and tweeted, “Happy birthday, Sunny Bhai.

Grew up listening about his legendary tales of batting without a helmet. Now fortunate enough to know him & hear those stories from the man himself.

The man is always at home in the West Indies ?.”

India’s veteran cricketer and deputy captain Ajinkya Rahane wished Gavaskar on his special day. “Wishing a very happy birthday to Sunil Gavaskar Sir. Wish him loads of happiness!, ” Rahane tweeted.

Incredible India batsman Suresh Raina also took Twitter to wish legend and tweeted, “Happy Birthday to the Legend! Master of Indian Cricket ??
From being the first person to score centuries and achieving many milestones.
You will always be loved by all the Cricket fans?
Wish you great health and prosperity?.”

Another Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary wished him on his social media handle and wrote, “Many many happy returns of d day 2 Sunil Gavaskar Sir. D man who has scored d most runs in his debut series, he has scored most of his runs without a helmet in that era, which is unthinkable. Wish u have a great year ahead Sir. May God always blesses U nd ur family?#SunilGavaskar, ” Tiwary tweeted.

Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav paid tribute to Gavaskar as he tweeted, “Happy birthday to the legend, #SunilGavaskar sir. You have inspired a generation to take up the sports. Wishing you good health & happiness.”

Former India cricketer S Badrinath also wished little master on his birthday. “A very happy birthday to the greatest & bravest Indian opener of all time, the original little master, and of course an exemplary commentator… sunny Bhai #SunilGavaskar,” he tweeted.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also wrote a beautiful birthday message for little master on Twitter.

He wrote, “Many happy returns of the day sir! Wishing you good health and a great year ahead. #SunilGavaskar ?.”

Sunil Gavaskar made his Test debut back in 1971 against the West Indies.

Sunil Gavaskar played 125 matches during his Test career and scored 10,122 runs at an average of 51.12 and smashed 34 Test centuries as well.

In ODIs, Sunil Gavaskar played 108 matches and scored 3,092 runs at an average of 35.13.

The legendary batsman has also received the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan award for his contribution to Indian cricket.
