Indian Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi has been confirmed to participate in Skilling Open, the 16 player opening event of the Champions Chess Tour. The Champions Tour is the brainchild of the Play Magnus Group. The tour witnesses the top players of the world fight it out over ten tournaments to claim the prize money of USD 1.5 million in the online chess tournament.
The first season of the online tournament was a huge success. The tournament went by the name Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour in its maiden season. And saw 25 top guns of the world fight it out in 5 tournaments. Norwegian Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen clinched the tournament named after himself defeating American Hikaru Nakamura as he forced the armageddon.

Vidit is excited to represent Indian chess community on the grand stage. The 26-year-old lauded the initiative by the Play Magnus Group to uplift the game. He expresses his joy of getting the opportunity to take on some of the greats of the game.

The thirtieth Grandmaster of India was the captain of the Indian Chess team which won the historic Gold Medal at FIDE Online Chess Olympiad. He has brought numerous laurels to the country having won multiple tournaments and championships such as Tata Steel, Beil Grandmaster’s event, Prague Masters etc. Vidit, the fourth Indian ever to cross 2700 ELO, is currently ranked 24 in World and 3 in India.
