Noted commentator & analyst, Harsha Bhogle picked up ‘Sourav Ganguly’ as his favourite captain from a star-studded list which included the likes of Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Bhogle praised the efforts of each skipper who brought the team forward in their own way.

South Africa former captain Shaun Pollock joined Harsha Bhogle in a Live session on Instagram with the official ICC handle. Bhogle reasoned his pick by logging out the results of Ganguly during the stormy match-fixing situation in the late 90s and early 2000s.

He retorted a fan question which said, ” Who is your favourite Indian captain of all time?”

He replied by saying, “India has been very blessed with captains in the last 20 years. Coming out of that whole match-fixing phase, when you wanted a dynamic and in-your-face captain, you had a Ganguly. Not much talked about, Rahul Dravid’s record for two years as captain was excellent. Then you had, during that terrible Sydney Test match, Anil Kumble’s strong presence there. Then Dhoni, now Kohli. We have actually been lucky but I think in many ways as the Aussies talk about Allan Border as someone who changed their cricket, we talk about Sourav Ganguly.”

Reportedly, Under Sachin Tendulkar’s captaincy, India suffered tough times due to the match-fixing scandal, Sourav Ganguly took the responsibility of rebuilding the team.

After crucial alterations, Ganguly got achievements in overseas tours and his inclusion of young players like Yuvraj Singh, Virendra Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh sported sudden result and helped the team to bought public faith into the game.

After the gap of 20 years, India reached to finals of World Cup, under the leadership of Ganguly and after facing brutal fuss under the coach of Grey Chappell, he proved himself by his performances in the domestic arena for Bengal.
