Jordan Henderson has added yet another accolade to his collection. Jordan Henderson was named FWA Footballer of the year. Henderson played a crucial role in Liverpool’s first premiere league title after 30 years. He finished above De Bryune and Marcus Rashford in the ranking for the award. This FWA award is the oldest award in English football (1948). FWA award is given on the basis of a player’s performance in the previous campaign.

Football Writers’ Association’s winner is chosen by a vote amongst the members of the (FWA). The jury comprises around 400 football based journalists throughout England. Raheem Sterling, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Sergio Aguero, Adama Traore, Danny Ings, Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Jonny Evans were also in running for the award.

Henderson’s statement

In an Interview Henderson Said “I’d like to say how appreciative I am of the support of those who voted for me. The Football Writers’ Association in general. You only have to look at the past winners of it, a number of whom I’ve been blessed to play with here at Liverpool, like Stevie [Gerrard], Luis [Suarez] and Mo [Salah] to know how prestigious it is. As grateful as I am I don’t feel like I can accept this on my own. I don’t feel like anything I’ve achieved this season or in fact during my whole career has been done on my own

“I owe a lot to so many different people, but none more so than my current team-mates, who have just been incredible and deserve this every bit as much as I do.We’ve only achieved what we’ve achieved because every single member of our squad has been brilliant. Not just in matches, not just in producing the moments that make the headlines and the back pages, but every day in training” later added Jordan.

Klopp’s Reaction

Liverpool’s Manger Jurgen Klopp also congratulated Henderson. Henderson has really improved under Jurgen Klopp. In a video message to Henderson, Klopp said: “Hi my friend. One of the big questions in football is: what makes a proper player? What’s more important? Is it talent or is it attitude?I think the easy answer is: without talent, you’re nothing; without attitude, you will stay a talent forever. You are the perfect example that a mix makes the difference.

“I know the human being behind the player and you would have deserved an award for that as well. So, many congratulations, well deserved, outstanding achievement. What a year you had, what a career so far you had, and the best news. There’s still a lot to come” later added Klopp.

Henderson has led by example this season. Acted as true leader throughout the 2019-2020 campaign. Hendorson thanked his teammates by saying “I accept it on behalf of this whole squad. Because without them I’m not in a position to be receiving this honor. Individual awards are nice and they are special. I will cherish this one, but an individual award without the collective achievement wouldn’t mean anywhere as much to me – if anything at all”
