Herschelle Gibbs to put his bat at auction with which he smashed 175 runs against Australia


Former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs has decided to put his bat in an auction in order to raise funds for coronavirus relief. With that bat, Gibbs played for 14 years.

With the same Bat, Gibbs played a match-winning innings(175) against Australia to lead South Africa in a historic 438 run chase.

Gibbs posted a photo of his bat on his twitter handle and captioned, “Supersport showing the #438 game . The bat i used that day will be up for auction to raise funds for covid. Kept it all these years.”

On his post, Mickey Arthur, the coach of South Africa team replied, “Good work Hersch…..that should be worth a bit!”

Few days ago, all-rounder AB de Villiers also said that he will auction his IPL Royal Challenger Banglore’s jersey to raise fund for coronavirus relief along with the kit of Virat Kohli with which he played in IPL 2016.

De Villiers said, “The proceeds from the auction will help ‘put food on the plates of the needy’ during the Covid-19 pandemic.”

In 2016, De Villiers and Virat Kohli smashed respective hundreds in Chinnaswamy Stadium against Gujarat Lions as RCB posted 248 runs on board.

Bangladesh cricketer Shakib-Al-Hasan has also decided to auction his bat with which he had played 2019 ODI World Cup to raise fund for coronavirus relief. Earlier, Jos Buttler also auctioned his bat in order to raise funds.
