The ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic has resulted in cancellation or postponement of most of tournaments and leagues in the world. Countries have even locked their respective borders to stop the spread of this pandemic.
Amid this lockdown, many sporting organisations have started having online fitness sessions for their players and some tutorials for their coaches/ umpires too. So is Hockey India, which has started keeping online interactive sessions through WhatsApp for umpires and technical officials.
The sessions probably will aim at improving these officials knowledge and motivating them on matters related to fitness.
Reportedly, A team of experienced tournament Managers, Umpires are conducting the sessions on WhatsApp groups which include Moghul Mohammed Muneer, Claudius de Sales and H.S Sokhi as technical officials & G.S Sangha, Javed Shaikh and Mr. G Harsha Vardhan as Umpires.
The interactive sessions are now carried out across six different groups, three each for technical officials and three for umpires.
Over 100 Hockey India registered officials are taking part in the interactive sessions, which is going to be conducted six days a week.
Further, Over 1100 officials are also taking part in this interactive session across over 70 WhatsApp groups across every state of the country.
Hockey India president Mohd. Mushtaque Ahmad has praised the initiative by saying, “Hockey India has put a brilliant process and structure in place in order to improve the standards of officiating in Hockey. Officials are as important as players in any sport and the interactive sessions which normally take place prior to each of the domestic tournaments have definitely helped the umpires and officials in the past and we believe that during this lockdown period, that officials can further improve their knowledge of FIH Rules and Regulations and raise the level of officiating.”
Each of the umpires and other officials are following a specific plan as decided by the respective tournament directors and umpires who conduct and manage the sessions over those respective Watsapp groups.
