Belinda Bencic is a Swiss professional tennis player who has a career-high WTA ranking of No.4 in the world which she reached in February 2020. Bencic has won four singles and two doubles titles on the WTA Tour.
The Swiss starlet, Belinda has opened up on whether she has planned for a life after tennis while speaking to retired Slovakian player Daniela Hantuchova.
“I think it’s very important that you know when to stop” – Belinda Bencic
Due to an injury and the global pandemic last year, Bencic had taken a break from the sport but that only led her to reaffirm her belief that she wouldn’t have much of a problem settling into a normal life after tennis.
“Sometimes, I think about it, although I still think I really have a lot of years to go. But I think it’s very important (that) you know when to stop and how the transition is, and that you have a normal life after tennis.
I actually appreciate this year because it showed me that I still enjoy being at home and I can have a normal life, besides tennis,” said the Swiss star, who is currently ranked 12th.
Bencic wants to settle down and have kids after retirement
Apart from her other interests in mind, Bencic added that once she hangs up her racket for good, she would like to get married and have children. She said, “So this (time she spent at home) showed me that I shouldn’t have any problems after it (retirement from tennis). But definitely after the career, I want to have a family, that’s kind of my first thought. And I want to have kids.“
Bencic will compete in Melbourne where she will be eyeing for her maiden Grand Slam.
