According to recent reports, Delhi’s Thyagraj Stadium was used to close early only to enable IAS officer Sanjeev Khirwar to take his dog out for a walk. As soon as reports got filed for this misuse Home Minister issued a transfer to the IAS officer to Ladakh, and his wife and fellow civil servant Rinku Dugga to be transferred to Arunanchal Pradesh.

The order issued by the Home Minister stated that the two 1994 batch IAS officers should be transferred from Delhi to their new postings “with immediate effect and until further orders”. Sanjeev Khirwar is currently the revenue commissioner of Delhi and also the secretary of the Environment Department of Delhi. Ministry of Home Affairs immediately transferred the two AGMUT cadre IAS officers to Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh respectively, as soon as the ministry got the filed reports.

Delhi Principal Secretary Sanjeev Khirwar had allegedly used to vacate the stadium before the evening so that he could use the space as a medium to walk his dog. A coach at the stadium had reported to the news agency ANI earlier today. The statement went, “An IAS officer walks his dog on the athletics track, and because of him, we are asked to vacate the stadium by 6:45 pm. We had been given clear instructions that the stadium should be emptied by that time”.

Over the past few months, it was reported that athletes and coaches at the Delhi government-run stadium Thyagraj have complained that the teams and sportspersons are being forced to close off their practice earlier than usual by 7 pm whereas the facility has the timings to be open till night 10 pm. Due to these problems, they had to wrap up their training schedules which affected their daily routines, as noted on indianexpress.com.

Hearing of this, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that an all-state-run sports facility in the national capital has been given the directions to stay open till late at night at 10 pm for the sportspersons to practice. Later in the afternoon, Kejriwal told the reporters, “It has come to my notice that sportspersons are facing problems because of the heat and the stadiums get closed by 6 or 7 pm. We are issuing instructions that all sports facilities should remain open till 10 pm so that sportspersons can use them”.
