IND vs SL: “I need to grab this opportunity as I have got this after a long time” – Prithvi Shaw

Shaw will open the batting

Young opening batsman Prithvi Shaw is grateful to make a comeback to the national side after being dropped during the Test series against Australia. The 21-year-old is a part of the 20-member squad for the six-match white-ball series in Sri Lanka.

Moreover, he is most likely to open the innings alongside skipper Shikhar Dhawan against SL. Shaw is coming from a thunderous form after emerging as the leading run-scorer in this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) where he amassed 827 runs at an average of 165.40.

Shaw looked dangerous while playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2021 as well where he recorded 308 runs in eight matches while striking at 166.49. In a recent interview, the Mumbai cricketer reckoned that he wants to grab this opportunity and win the series for his nation.

“If you ask me personally, obviously, I need to grab this opportunity as well because I have got this opportunity after a long time. So that is what is there in my mind,” Prithvi Shaw told Star Sports.

“When I play for India or any team, I always put the team forward. So obviously, I want to win this series for India,” he added.

“It is enjoyable to bat alongside Shikhar Dhawan”

Prithvi Shaw also talked about his experience while opening the innings alongside Shikhar Dhawan. The duo has been batting together for the Delhi-based franchise in IPL for the last three seasons. The left-right opening pair has consistently done well in the past and they are expected to perform on similar lines against the island nation as well.

“I and Shikhi bhai are opening for the Delhi Capitals, we were good friends before that as well, but after that our bonding has become better because off the field also we spent quite a lot of time with each other, whether it was dinner or chilling in his room.

“We used to talk a lot and because of that, that bond was seen on the wicket as well. We used to speak a lot about cricket there as well, off the field or in between overs. It is enjoyable to bat alongside him,” Prithvi Shaw stated.
