International cricket returned to the city of Chennai after quite a long gap and despite the fact that the match between India and England was played behind closed doors, the craze for a fascinating day of Test cricket was not lost in the residents. The said craze was evident when a photo of a family live-streaming the first Test during a wedding ceremony in the city went viral on social media recently.
With regard to India’s fortunes on the pitch however, the Test match started slipping out of their grasp right from the very beginning and culminating in a morale-dampening loss. A huge first innings total fashioned by England’s skipper Joe Root‘s double-hundred set the tone for the win as India crumbled on the final day chasing down a total of 420 and fell short by a margin of 227 runs.

The picture that went viral on social media was posted by a person called Akshay Natarajan who captioned it, “A Chennai test, with 2 Chennai boys batting. How can you not?? Happy married life da Anand.” The two Chennai boys referred in the tweet are Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin who were involved in a crucial partnership in India’s first innings which saw the former score 85*.
The second Test will also be held in Chennai and fortunately for the people, 50% crowds are being allowed. The tickets have already been sold out and it remains to be seen if the return of crowds will signal a turnaround in fortunes for India in the all-important series.
