After a long wait, Suryakumar Yadav finally made his debut for India. Although he didn’t get to bat in his debut game, he made sure that he announced his arrival in style. In his maiden international innings, Suryakumar got off the mark with a six on the first ball before went one to hit his maiden fifty on the big stage.

The Mumbai batsman who scored 89 runs in his first two T20I innings asserts that there is “no secret” to his seamless transition to international cricket. Suryakumar shares that the key was playing his natural game and express himself in the middle. He adds that he looked to play fearlessly as he does in the nets and it paid off.

There is no secret according to me. The secret is only that there also we talk about playing fearless cricket like we do in the nets or in the practice games. So, we do that after coming here also,” said Yadav speaking on Star Sports.

The way Rohit Sharma or even Ishan Kishan express themselves there, they do the same thing here. I also had to follow the same thing. The sort of cricket I play there, the same way I played here and didn’t try to do anything different. I just tried to be myself and the results are there, I am very happy with that,” he added.

Suryakumar was pushed down the order in his debut game where he didn’t get a chance to bat. And it meant that it was unlikely for him to feature at his regular batting spot at number three. Surprisingly, Indian captain Virat Kohli decided to bat him at his place in the order and the move paid off handsomely. Suryakumar shares that he is ready to bat at any number if his side needs him to.

It is a great feeling. Earlier it seemed like the role will be slightly different because the planning was different during the practice sessions. But before the last game the team management and Virat bhai came and told me that I would be batting at No.3,” said Yadav.

So, the confidence they showed, I just carried that forward into the matches. I have told them that whichever number they want me to bat, I can do that and I am flexible. But yes, getting the position I have been batting at for the last 2-3 years, I didn’t have to do much different and enjoyed a lot batting at that position,” concluded Suryakumar.

The flamboyant batsman has also received a maiden call-up for the ODI series against England. It would be interesting to see how he adapts to the longer format and a new batting position if he gets a chance in the side.
