India got back to their destructive best as they brushed aside England in the second T20I to level the five-match series 1-1. It was an all-round effort by both bowlers and the batters that resulted in the exemplary team performance and hence, the victory. The hero on the night was Ishan Kishan who on debut, laid the platform for a successful chase by going all guns blazing and scoring a half-century. He was well supported by a trademark second innings knock from skipper Virat Kohli.
Earlier, India had won the toss and decided to field first. They handed debuts to the talented duo of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. Shikhar Dhawan and Axar Patel made way for the two as India decided to trust Hardik Pandya to act as the fifth bowler with no sixth bowling option. The selection proved to be a good one as it was Ishan Kishan’s knock that proved to be the decisive one.
Bowlers stifle England at the death; India ace the chase
Put in to bat, England got off to a horror start as Jos Buttler was dismissed LBW by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Jason Roy and Dawid Malan then hung around for a bit and kept the scoreboard ticking. After the duo’s wickets at the hands of the spinners, the runs dried up and each batter that followed found it difficult to up the ante. The Indian bowlers led by Bhuvneshwar and Shardul Thakur kept it tight at the death to ensure what could have been a score in excess of 180 ended up being 164.
In the chase, India too got off to a bad start as Sam Curran began with a wicket maiden dismissing KL Rahul. It was then that Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli delighted the crowd with their hitting. Both batsmen got to their half-centuries as India cantered towards an easy win. Rishabh Pant joined in after Kishan’s wicket and played a cameo as well to help the run-rate. Shreyas Iyer and Kohli then took India to a win in 17.5 overs.
