Ishant Sharma created history yesterday when turned up for the Indian test team for his 100th match. No specialist pacer has ever achieved the landmark for India with the exception of the legendary Kapil Dev. He was thus, honored before the match’s play started. He also got his team off to a dream start by removing Dom Sibley in the first over. In India’s batting innings, he went on to hit the first six of the match as well as his career.

Even as India suffered a dramatic collapse that saw them slip from 99/3 to 145 all-out, Ishant looked solid with the bat and contributed 10 crucial runs off 20 balls for his side. The 100th test has thus already proved to be a very eventful one for the pacer and he will only hope for more.

Ishant Sharma dispatches Jack Leach over long-off

In the 51st over of India’s innings with the score at 135/9, Ishant Sharma decided to take on the English spinners who were bowling in tandem. Off the very first ball of the over bowled by Jack Leach, he sweetly struck a full and tossed-up delivery and powered it over long-off for a huge six that got the crowd excited as ever.

What was even more remarkable was the fact that it was Ishant’s first six in his entire international career. For someone who made his debut in 2007, having his first six come in his 100th test in 2021 is truly incredible. Further, the six was also the first six of the match and hence, the first six hit at the newly constructed Narendra Modi Stadium.
