Rishabh Pant came up with a knock for the ages as well in ongoing fourth and final test in Ahmedabad between India and England. Coming in to bat with India in a great spot of bother, the young wicket-keeper batmsan’s knock rescued India and his partnership with Washington Sundar ensured that India did not implode but finished day 2 in a very strong position.

India got off to a steady start on day 2 but were pegged back as the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane fell in quick succession. At 146/6 and still trailing by 59 runs, Pant and Sundar joined hands to stitch together a quick-fire partnership that began cautiously. Even as the two were under immense pressure, they proved that their young shoulders were ready to take up responsibility.

Rishabh Pant began cautiously as India were in a bit of trouble. The runs kept flowing in regular intervals from his bat though and he made his intentions known with a six off Joe Root‘s bowling. He galloped at good pace to his fifty before going all-out once the second new-ball was taken. The very first ball off the new ball from James Anderson was dispatched for four over the mid-on fielder.

Ben Stokes and Joe Root were then treated with contempt as the youngster soon started to edge near his hundred. The shot of the day was an audacious reverse-sweep that Pant came up with off Anderson’s bowling at that. If that wasn’t enough, he got to his hundred by swatting Root for a six over deep midwicket when a fielder was position in the exact same spot. Just as he lived by the sword, he died by the sword very soon after his hundred, holing out to Root off Anderson’s bowling. Pant was disappointed but not the Indians as they had witnessed a truly scintillating knock.
