Young all-rounder Washington Sundar yet again rescued India from a tough spot with the bat in just his fourth Test. Riding on his great form with the bat, Sundar made a gritty 96. He remained unbeaten as he missed out on yet another chance of notching up his maiden Test ton. Sundar’s 174 ball innings included 10 fours and 11 sixes.

Sundar stitched important partnerships with Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel. But following the latter’s dismissal, the tailenders failed to hold the fort. Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj went for ducks as Sundar was left stranded on the non-striker’s end. The young all-rounder was visibly disappointed as he missed a golden chance of bringing up the three-figure total after coming so agonisingly close.

Following Pant’s whirlwind century on day two, India were en route a 400 plus total courtesy of a gritty stand between Axar and Sundar. But a horrible mix-up saw local boy Axar getting runout. The runout meant the allrounder missed on a deserving maiden half-century in Test cricket. The end of the fifty-run stand between the southpaws drastically lowered Sundar’s chances for a ton.

And his worst nightmare came true as Ishant and Siraj were dismissed in the span of three balls. Nonetheless, Sundar’s career best score of 96* helped India to a lead of 160 runs. As of now it looks like India are in for an easy win with the wicket starting to spin more and more as the Test match progresses.
