India were dealt a reality check as England eased to victory despite a stiff target being set to level the three-match series 1-1 and make for an exciting decider on the 28th of March. Having won the first match and setting a similar target in the second, India fancied their chances of clinching another win. However, the English batsmen completely dominated the bowlers to race to a facile victory.

Earlier, put in to bat, India lost openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan early. It was left to Virat Kohli and KL Rahul to revive the innings. That was exactly what they did as both got to half-centuries and looked set to guide India to a big total. Kohli’s dismissal led to the arrival of Rishabh Pant who came up with an exemplary knock as him and Rahul made merry by taking on the English bowlers.

KL Rahul then got to a hundred before holing out off Tom Curran‘s bowling. Hardik Pandya then produced some fireworks to ensure India finished on 336/6 which India would have been happy with, especially considering the horror start that they got off to.

However, England ensured that the Indian bowlers never got into the game with a spectacular display of hitting. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow produced knocks similar to the previous ODI and it was only a run-out for the latter that brought an end to their century partnership. Bairstow kept attacking and never allowed the bowlers to settle as him and No. 3 batsman Ben Stokes kept the scoreboard ticking.

After Bairstow got to his hundred, Ben Stokes went on an absolute rampage to flatten Kuldeep Yadav and Krunal Pandya who looked clueless. However, the all-rounder was dismissed for 99 as he gloved one to the keeper off Bhuvneshwar Kumar‘s bowling. Bairstow and Jos Buttler then followed in quick succession but Liam Livingstone and Dawid Malan saw England through to victory.
