Indian Grand Prix -1: Season Opener for Indian Athletes

IGP-1 is all set to take place on 20th of March at NIS patiala.
some of the elite athletes will be featuring in this season opener.

Here is the Detail of some key events and athletes.

Men’s 200 m

Muhammed Anas and Arokia Rajiv will be featuring in this event along with some other quarter millers like Nirmal Noah Tom and K. S Jeevan.This will be the first competitive race for Arokia since Asian athletics championship last year. It will be interesting to see how he performs here ,as he could be a a key member of 4*400m relay teams particularly mixed relay team.

Women’s 200m

This event has maximum number of participants among all events including elite athletes like Hima Das, V. K vismaya and other quarter millers .This will be first competition for Hima after making a shift from 400 m to 200 m. Vismaya has a great season last year and will be looking for a good start of season. Dutee Chand and Anjali devi are also in the starting list. If we talk about Olympic chances then Dutee have better chances in 200m than 100m.

Women’s 100m

Despite of lack of quality competition Dutee Chand will be looking for a good performance something nearby Olympic qualification mark of 11.15s. She is currently placed 53rd in the ranking and she has recently clocked 11.49s at khelo India University games, this timing was much below her personal best of 11.22s. Hima Das is also featured in entry list of this event.

Men’s Shot Put

Tajinder Pal Singh Toor will be eying to breach Olympic qualification mark of 21.10 m. He has the personal best of 20.92 m (also national record) achieved last year in National open athletics championship.

Men’s Long Jump

Youngster Murli Sreeshankar will be seeking to achieve Olympic qualification mark of 8.22 m. National record holder (8.20m) Sreeshankar has a good off season and is expected to achieve this mark in upcoming competitions.
