As the sports resume amid the raging coronavirus pandemic, good news prevailed for Hockey fans as well. Indian Women’s Hockey Team resumes its tours and travels to Argentina after a year of halt owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. This tour, in a way, will prepare them for the Olympics ahead this year.
As the team left for Argentina earlier in the midnight, the captain Rani Rampal even added a Tweet just as the team was off to Argentina. In her Tweet, she looked excited about this first tour of 2021.
As per reports, a core group of 25 players and seven support staff were to leave New Delhi for Argentina on January 3. The Indian women’s team are to take on Argentina, the host, in eight matches starting from January 17.
“We have a little over 200 days before we arrive in Tokyo for the Olympic Games in July 2021 and it was very important to play matches against a strong team like Argentina,” Indian women’s hockey team captain Rani Rampal said in a release issued by Hockey India.
“The team is really excited for this opportunity and has been keenly looking forward to this tour, this exposure will make us understand the level we are at after nearly a five-month-long National Coaching Camp in Bengaluru,” Rani added.
Indian Women Hockey team last played in January 2020
Indian Women’s Hockey team last played official international matches in January 2020 where it travelled to New Zealand for a first five-match series. In the series abroad, India played against both New Zealand and Great Britain and won three of the series’s five matches.
