Indian wrestling team trials FS: Jitender wins in 74kg, Satyawart upsets Mausam Khatri

In trials for first three events of this year, ranking series in Italy, Asian Championship and Asian Olympics qualifiers completed today in Delhi. It was a day of upsets in most competitive 74kg and 97kg.
In 74 kg Jitender Kumar prevailed the intense trial to qualify for season opener tournaments. Gaurav Baliyan, who was favorite in this category, also National Champion, lost to Amit Dhankhar by a narrow margin in intense semifinal.
Praveen Rana, runner up in National Championship last year, lost to Vinod Kumar in quarter final by 4-2. But lost to Jitender by 5-2 in final. This win means Jitender can dash most decorated wrestler Sushil Kumar hopes for Tokyo 2020.
Deepak Punia(86kg) and Ravi Dhaiya (57kg) didn’t have to break much sweat as they were given direct entries in final and they won easily.
In 97kg, Satyawart Kadiyan defeated Mausam Khatri by 12-2, while in 125kg Sumit Malik secured easy victory.
WFI earlier announced that winner of Friday trial will compete in Ranking Series event in Italy ( January 15-18), Ashian Championship in New Delhi (February 18-23) and Asian Olympic qualifiers in Xian (March 27-29). If any wrestler perform below par in first two events then fresh trials will take place for Olympic qualifiers, hinted WFI president.
