Injustice with HS Prannoy as BAI didn’t recommend him for the Arjun award?

Two players, one crime but one has been recommended for the Khel Ratna while other didn’t get Arjun Award recommendation. We are talking about the Srikanth Kidambi and HS Prannoy, the duo who left Asian Championship Semifinals to increase their Olympic ratings.

The crime is the same, then why this injustice?There may be several reasons. One reason BAI can give is that Srikanth apologised for the act but Prannoy didn’t. Then, was this act of apologising enough for BAI to recommend Srikanth for the award. Initially BAI had said it would take action against the two players. We can say that if Srikanth apologised, taking action against him should have been cancelled but recommending him instantly for the award is something different. It will be totally unfair with HS Prannoy, who had been playing exceptionally well since the last four years.

On June 2 BAI recommended doubles player Satwiksairaj and Chirag, and singles player Sameer Verma for the Arjuna award. Prannoy got extremely disturbed by this recommendation. He wrote against BAI on his social media handles but he later deleted those tweets and posts, which is either a sign of submission or apology.

While the former World No.1 didn’t post anything against the BAI’s recommendation, and he later apologised for his act.This apology changed everything for him.

It is also to be noted that the players recommended by the BAI were also playing good but according to World No.28, Prannoy, he was more deserving than them.

Although there hasn’t been any new reports from either side except that Indian Badminton coach Gopichand Pullela had recommended Prannoy for the Arjuna Award. It will be interesting to know how things shape up in future.
