The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finalized 7 commentators for the Indian Premier League 2020. The biggest name missing from the list was that of Sanjay Manjrekar.
As per a report by Mumbai Mirror, BCCI has finalised 7 names for the upcoming season of IPL. Former cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar is likely to miss out on the official IPL commentators team.
The names include Sunil Gavaskar, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Murali Kartik, Deep Dasgupta, Rohan Gavaskar, Harsha Bhogle, and Anjum Chopra.
Deep Dasgupta and Murali Kartik will be present at the matches at Abu Dhabi. The rest of the team will officiate from Dubai and Sharjah. The commentators will leave for UAE on 10 September.
Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah will be the 3 venues in UAE. This year the IPL will be a 53-day tournament with the finals scheduled on the 10th of November.
BCCI in no mood to hire Manjrekar back
Manjrekar was sacked by the BCCI in March this year after controversy erupted by his statement about Ravindra Jadeja. The BCCI had removed him from the commentary team before the ODI series against South Africa. However, BCCI cancelled the series due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Manjrekar had earlier written to the BCCI, requesting the board to include his name for the IPL. However, the Board is reluctant to re-hire him.
IPL 2020 begins from 19th September in UAE.
